Story of ‘In the Cuttings’:
Islanders have a phrase, with local pronunciation, “Slippy in the cuttins” which means ‘Be careful! It is slippery in the cuttings!’ In the winter on Prince Edward Island, when there is a metre (several feet) of snow on the ground, a path (called ‘a cutting’) is created by a snow blower. The rows of ridge work are reminiscent of the cuttings of winter :) 
