This pattern was developed specifically for the afghans for Afghans project. We tried to make a simple pattern that would function well. However, over time, we have learned that this is not the best pattern for kids in Afghanistan. There are better patterns out there, frankly. To improve this pattern, add a button band for closing up against the cold. The neckline and armholes would also benefit from ribbed edging. Moroever, the decreases at the neck seem to cause some troubles -- creating a puckered neckline unless the knitter is careful. Alas, the pattern lives on in the wonderful “Knitting for Peace” book, but we wanted to post these comments here. Thanks for understanding. Please check the afghansforAfghans.org website to find out what type of garments are needed and by when. Thanks, Ann, founder of afghans for Afghans
