Tired of taking the same old dusty towel or sheet to the beach for your little ones to sit on? Maybe it’s time to change it up a bit.

Use this free pattern (graph and instructions included) to make a fun C2C blanket with waves. Find some cotton or cotton blend yarn in your stash and a hook that goes with it and start making the most beautiful play blanket.

After you make the swatch and get a good idea of how much yarn you will use, you only need the graph on the last page to keep going. This makes this project portable and easy to take on trips, on vacation, on your commute or even in your back yard, enjoying a few minutes of rest after a full day.

This pattern is simple enough for beginners to get a good practice of trebles and the construction of C2C blankets, but it’s also not boring because of the eyelets that form the wave pattern. The eyelets make the blanket light and airy and a lot of fun for kids (didn’t you love to play with lace when you were a kid, just to be admonished for “ruining the good stuff” - even if you weren’t?), but they also require a bit of concentration to get right.

If you want to not add the eyelets, use a contrasting yarn to make those squares. If you want to make the blanket into a shawl/stole, you can print the last page twice, cut out one of the graphs and overlap it with the other (keeping the same direction of the graph), as the waves can be stacked.

If you use thicker yarn and want to preserve the size of the pattern and the blanket, you can make classic C2C stitches (Ch3, 3Dc) instead of the treble and the eyelets with Ch6.

The customization possibilities are endless, but in the end, the most important thing is for you and your little ones to have fun!
