Incantation
Incantation is a three colour triangular shawl. It’s a combination of relaxing garter stitch stripes and a wide band of heavy lace. I refer to the lace as heavy because it is thick and squishy, almost as much as garter stitch, which is why they go so well together. It is very simple to knit and produces a satisfying result. It is easy to adjust size and works well in many weights of yarn.
Yarn: 3 skeins in 3 colours of sport weight yarn, 100g each for large, 50g each for small. I recommend a squishy yarn with some bounce.
Needles: Either 3.5mm (US 4) needles or 3.75mm (US 5) needles. For small and large sizes respectively.
The purple sample shawl is the large size and was knitted with the oh-so-glorious Madeline Tosh Pashmina in the colours Thunderstorm, Iris, and Spectrum. It is beautifully squishy.
The orange sample is the small size and was knitted with the more budget friendly Drops Alpaca in the colours 6736 Navy/Purple Mix, 5565 Light Maroon Mix, and 2925 Rust Mix. The 100% alpaca resulted in a very drapey fabric that is very lovely.
Both the small and large sizes were knit with only one ball of each colour. However, the small orange shawl was knit with only 50g balls of Drops Alpaca and I came very close to using all of colours A and C. You may need to opt for fewer repeats if your yarn is running out faster than expected. For the large size you will want full 100g skeins to work from.
