If you’re anything like me, there’s yarn in your stash that has changed it’s mind about what it wants to be or never knew in the first place. This pattern celebrates the yarn that changes it’s mind.

Everything about the pattern is adjustable and the only decision you have to make before you start is the yarn and the needle.

The shawl begins with a sideways knitted border. After the border is the appropriate length, stitches are picked up along the side and the body is knitted in either stockinette or garter stitch. Directions are included for 4 different shapes (triangle, crescent, asymmetrical swoop, and 3/4 square) and the size is completely adjustable. Some minor math is required to do the shaping.

Suggestions for sizing (based on fingering weight yarn) are included for each shape.

Gauge
This is a shawl. It doesn’t have to fit. My swatch is about 3” tall and 4.25” wide and is two repeats of the border pattern. Since everything about this shawl is adjustable, use a needle that will give you a fabric you like. Cast on with your desired yarn/needle combo and knit 1-2 repeats of the border pattern. If it looks too tight, go up in needle size. Too loose, use a smaller needle.

Yarn
I highly recommend wool or wool blends that don’t have a lot of nylon for shawls. If you’re going with fingering weight, you should be able to get a shawlette from a 400 yard skein (depending on final gauge). Pattern is geared towards fingering weight, but can be knit with any weight, just adjust the size accordingly.

Circular needles are recommended due to the large number of stitches.

Stitch markers - several regular and a couple locking ones are needed.
