Indo-Pacific reef fish
As much as I love all the wonderful creatures inhabiting the worlds’ dry lands, I am even more fascinated by Earths’ magical watery worlds and their colorful inhabitants. Here is a way to dive into the enchanting and spectacularly splashy underwater world, without even getting your feet wet!
The powder-blue tang, copperband butterflyfish and red lionfish are eye-catching inhabitants of the Indian Ocean reefs. And though these pretty fish may look harmless, they are in fact fierce creatures, that can definitely defend themselves against any enemy trying to mess with them! Luckily, your knitted fish are going to be a lot more cuddly and huggable!
This pattern includes the powder-blue tang, copperband butterflyfish, red lionfish and sheet coral.
The reef fish were knitted on 2.25 mm double pointed needles (UK 13, US 1) to create a dense fabric, which makes the features stand out. Only small amounts of yarns are needed, so a reef fish is a great project to use up any scraps you have lying around!
The butterfly- and surgeonfish measure about 10 cm, the lionfish is 13 cm long. These fish make an easy to medium project with some color work (stripes and intarsia), i-cord knitting and transferring and holding stitches between/on needles (explained in detail in several schematics).
Have a splash!
