Using colour, texture and form, the Indonesia scarf evokes the beautiful terraced rice fields of Indonesia. The interlocking stitch pattern of the main section recalls green layers over the expanse of a field, while the ruffled edging, with its pronounced knit-stitch ridges, isolates the individual rice stalks.

The main section is worked first in one piece and can serve as a scarf in its own right, without the edging. The ruffled edging, in the Accordion Pleat Stitch, is picked up and knit along each long side for that added touch of interest as it frames the face.

Skill Level: Intermediate

The pattern includes instructions for two versions: as a scarf (as pictured) and as a full-sized shawl.
