Iniko Shawl
Originally designed for two custom-dyed colors in a now discontinued DK weight yarn, we’ve re-imagined the Iniko Shawl in fingering weight using Fino from Manos del Uruguay. The variegated color (called Cuarenta y Cinco) shown in the example was dyed for the shop’s 45th anniversary by the artisans at Manos. The combination of the colors and stitches reminded us of wings, so we named it after the California Condor, who are sometimes seen in Cambria.
Iniko (1031) is the name of the baby condor born April 25, 2020 in Big Sur California. The name, of Nigerian origin, means “Born during troubled times”. After the fires, the loss of a parent, and some other issues, Iniko was re-released into the wild on December 4, 2021, a reminder that we can all live through troubled times. A hopeful message that resonates with many of us.
