About:
Inishbofin, a small island off the coast of County Galway, is a place where land and sea meet in a breathtaking dance.  A place of contrast—wild yet peaceful, remote yet welcoming—it was the perfect inspiration for this shawl.

The lace in the Inishbofin Shawl captures this meeting of water and land, where the wind and waves shape the coastline just as yarn and needles shape the shawl in your hands. Open spaces within the lace mirror the ebb and flow of the tide, while both the small bands of stockinette along the edge and spine and garter border provide a grounding calm—just as the island itself is a place of both movement and stillness.

Designed to be both engaging and meditative. Purl rest rows offer a moment to breathe, much like a quiet pause along the island’s walking paths, where time slows and the sea stretches endlessly before you.

This worsted-weight, triangle shawl was written in one size, with instructions for modification. It’s perfect for an intermediate knitter, yet engaging enough for an advanced one.

The Inishbofin Shawl invites you to explore at your own pace—with both charts and written instructions—you can choose your own journey through the pattern.

Wrap yourself in the spirit of Inishbofin—wild, serene, timeless.

Needle:
US 9 (5.5 mm), 40” (100 cm) circular needle or needles needed to get gauge

Suggested Yarn: Wool & Palette, Worsted, 3 skeins, 100% Non-Superwash Merino/Rambouillet Wool; 240 yds (219 m)/100 g or any worsted weight yarn of your choosing.

Note: Because this is such a special yarn, I have used all but a tiny nugget of the 3 plump skeins. If you use a different yarn, you will need 4 skeins of a worsted that has 220 yds (200 m). With buffer for gauge differences, I suggest having 800 yds (731 m).

Sample uses: Mustard, approx. 720 yds (660 m)

Gauge: 16 stitches/20 rows = 4” (10 cm) square in lace from Body Section using US 9 (5.5 mm) needles or whatever size needle gives you the fabric you would like.

Other Notions: 4 stitch markers for edges and center stitches, 24 stitch markers for lace (optional but suggested to make things easier), darning needle

Special Techniques:
Knit, purl, working from charts (written directions available), increases (m1l, m1r, yo), decreases (k2tog, s2kp, ssk), cast on & bind off

Final Measurements:
76“ x 34” (190 x 85 cm)
