Inishmore Poncho
I named this poncho after an Aran island in honor of my Irish great-grandfather. Combinations of cables down the center front, center back, and along the sides lend the spirit of tradition to an easy-to-wear accessory. With ponchos gaining new-found popularity, the open-sided shape and oversized turtleneck make it ideal for chilly transitional weather.
Construction
Worked in DK weight yarn, the poncho is constructed in two pieces, front and back, which are seamed with a 3-needle bind-off. Using increasing needle sizes on the turtleneck, it naturally lies flat along the neckline without riding up. While the poncho’s shape is very simple, the cables keep the knitting interesting.
Sizes
Four sizes (instead of the typical “one size fits all”) assure that the finished poncho will look attractive on many body types and sizes. It is designed to fall to the high thigh in length and to just below the elbows in width. The neck opening gives about 2” ease.
XS/S (M/L, 1X/2X, 3X/4X) to fit bust sizes 28-34” (36-42”, 44-50”, 52-58”) / 71-86 (91-107, 112-127, 132-147) cm
