Inside Out Aran Dishcloths
This is a set of 2 dishcloths in the The INSIDE OUT ARAN series, which is an exploration of textural skills that are normally used in hand knitting but by means of hand manipulation, we can get lovely results on the machine, too. The ultimate goal is a classic bulky aran cardigan but we’ll work up to it by developing the various stitching skills with small projects to build comfort and confidence. The sweater will be a challenge, but a do-able one when you get there. Keep track of each pattern because the definitions in each one will be used in the final sweater pattern without repeating them.
These dishcloths explore the use of garter stitch and double moss stitch on the knitting machine.
This design is created with single bed work in mind. Why is it called inside out? The sweater design looks like a normal, classic Aran and it is, but we work it from the purl side, creating knit stitches as needed. They are either re-formed by hand or placed on the ribber where they will show up as knits against the purl background from the main bed. Doing this makes it easier to see what is going on and to keep track of the cables. For garter stitch and double moss stitch, the inside out feature is not noticeable. It will come to the fore when we get to the cables. The patterns may be knitted by making use of the ribber and notes about that are included. But, unlike the Masterpiece Cable series, this group of patterns uses the main bed for the purl stitches and the ribber or hand manipulation to create knit stitches.
