When I initially started working on this design, I had a different idea in mind. I drafted out the pattern and started working on the sample but for some reason, I just wasn’t excited about it. Something didn’t feel right. I got a little frustrated and put it to the side.

The next morning I woke up and put on a ‘Motivational Work Day’ playlist. My mood lifted and music always gets my creativity flowing! I asked my daughter to pick out five colours of leftover yarn, any colours, they didn’t have to match or work together. She picked THE most clashing colours possible but I think that added to the fun!

I got out my hook and let it do the talking. The colour changes and the stitch patterns seemed to choose themselves and within an hour, I had a small sample and a written pattern draft.

All I needed was a bit of inspiration!

YARN

• Stylecraft Special DK (DK weight - Light (3))
• 100% Premium Acrylic
• Yardage: 295 m / 322 yd; 100 g / 3.52 oz

Colour 1: 1 ball - Midnight (1011)
Colour 2: 1 ball - Teal (1062)
Colour 3: 1 ball - Gold (1709)
Colour 4: 1 ball - Spice (1711)
Colour 5: 1 ball - Plum (1061)

OR any DK - Light (3) weight yarn

Colour 1: 165 - 180 m / 180.5 - 197 yd
Colour 2: 56 - 62 m / 61.3 - 68 yd
Colour 3: 115 - 127 m / 126 - 139 yd
Colour 4: 56 - 62 m / 61.3 - 68 yd
Colour 5: 127 - 139 m / 139 - 152 yd  

Fringe: For the fringe, you require an additional 24 m / 26.70 yds; 8.2 g / 0.3 oz of your chosen fringe colour or colours.

HOOK

• 5mm (US H-8) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE

• 17 sts x 8 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in. in half double crochet (blocked)
• Gauge is not crucial to this project but varying gauges will affect yardage and final measurements.

NOTIONS

• Darning/tapestry needle
• Blocking mats/towels
• Rustproof pins
• Garment steamer/steam iron

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

19 cm x 207 cm / 7.5 in. x 81.5 in.
