The Interrupted Swirl Hat is companion to my Interrupted Swirl Mitts. Both use the same main pattern as appears in my Swirl sock pattern, one of my most popular.

The hat is one size fits most, but the pattern is also highly customizable simply by adding or reducing stitches in the ribbing sections on either side of the swirl motif.

Two skeins of Indigodragonfly Merino Silk 4 ply sock yarn will be enough to create both the hat and mitts as written. One skein will provide generous yardage for the hat.

The merino/silk blend adds a delicate shine and feel of luxury to an elegant set of accessories. Swirl will take you easily from winter to spring. Silk has the wonderful ability to keep you comfortable and cool in spring and warm in winter.

Sizes: One size fits most. Hat is 10” across at the brim and approximately 8” from cast on edge to tip, blocked and laid flat.

Materials

  • Approximately 430 yards (393m) of Indigodragonfly Merino Silk 4 ply sock yarn (1 skein= 430yd/393m per 3oz/100g), or similar. Sample knit in “Türtljägr: For When Frögschläger Just Won’t Do” colorway.

  • 1 set of 5 US #2 (3 mm) double-point or circular needles for the brim, US#3 (3.25mm) for the body of the hat, or size needles required to obtain gauge.

  • Tapestry needle, cable needle (optional), stitch marker
