Interstellar Mosaic
Interstellar is created using the overlay mosaic technique.
The PDF has 3 easy to read charts (with X’s for DCs) for each pattern included, and corresponding written instructions (using US terms).
The pattern does not include a border, but there are border ideas explained within the PDF.
The main verticals in colour B on the pattern are worked as FPDC’s (Front post double crochet).
This gives the pattern a more 3D and textured effect, with the main star pattern peeking through the verticals.
You can of course swap out all the FPDC’s for just normal DC’s if you prefer. The choice is yours. However, the pattern charts and written instructions detail FPDC’s throughout.
You can use any yarn and corresponding hook you like for this pattern, just remember a tighter tension is better for mosaic crochet.
If using Stylecraft Special DK, you will need approximately 10 skeins for the main body of the blanket (not including a border)
- 5 skeins for Colour A
- 5 skeins for Colour B
Between 2953 - 3226 yards (2700 - 2950 metres)
The afghan size without a border will be approx. 90 x 120cm
You can of course create any size you want as it’s a simple repeating pattern.
There is even a link to a wee video showing you the initial foundation pattern, and the first few rows of pattern 1 explaining how to create the vertical ridges using front post DCs.
I hope you enjoy creating your own Interstellar project.
