This cuff-down DK weight sock pattern contains beginner-friendly stranded color work along with some textured stitch patterns on the front side of the sock. Simple, pretty detailing on the cuff and heel will provide a newer sock knitter with some tricks for their toolbox.

I designed this pattern as a quick Christmas knit, perfect for gifting or as a cozy addition to your sock drawer. However, don’t limit yourself to “Christmas” colors! Playing with your palette can easily give a whole new feel to these socks.

I think these socks, knit up in the sample yarn, have a distinct “gingerbread house” or Swiss chalet appeal to them, and named them for the village of Intervale, NH, which has a number of homes in this style. While not quite as grand as the Alps, the mountains surrounding Intervale certainly have a charm of their own, and the location truly shines at Christmas.

This pattern includes adult sizes in small, medium, and large for foot circumferences of 8”, 9”, and 10” and allowing for about 1” of negative ease for a good fit. It has a picot cuff (YouTube tutorial available on my channel!), a slip stitch heel flap and gusset (eye of partridge heel), and a rounded toe. Both the leg length and the foot length can be easily adjusted, although I caution against adding too much to the leg length if you only have 100g of the MC and are knitting a large pair. You will need approximately 100g of DK weight sock yarn for this project, along with 20 or more grams of 2 contrasting colors. You can substitute with fingering weight sock yarn held double if you wish.

The textured pattern is produced with knit and purl stitches and is easy to memorize after a few repeats. Instructions for the pattern are both written out and charted. It is not written for a specific sock knitting method, but it would be best if the knitter is familiar with sock knitting since not every technique is described in detail. The knitter should be familiar with their preferred needle method (i.e. magic loop, DPNs, 9” circulars, etc.) and should know basic stitches (k2tog, ssk, kitchener). A glossary is included in the pattern.

You may sell finished socks that you have knit with this pattern as long as you credit me as the pattern designer. Please do not make or sell copies of the pattern.
