This is the first of two patterns inspired by Patrice Karst’s The Invisible String which teaches children about overcoming separation anxiety through the concept of ‘invisible strings’ which connect us to all of our loved ones. This is a concept we use regularly in our family to cope with the distance we live from our family, the strain deployments and FIFO work can place on our hearts … and remembering that mummy will always pick you up from school at the end of the day.

The eight stitch repeat can be converted to various sizes and for DPN’s, as demonstrated by one of my testers, and your usual vanilla sock recipe can be used for the heel and foot of the sock.

To save on printing, print only the pages you need back to back and two pages per sheet.

Please feel free to share all images online and tag @winiwombat, #theyarnywombat, and #invisibleheartstringssocks.

This pattern is for private use only and not for distribution. If you sell items made from one of my patterns, please list The Yarny Wombat as the pattern designer.

Pattern notes:

  • The leg of the sock is a charted, eight stitch repeat. Written instructions are included for the cuff, heel, and toe.

  • Approximately two 50g balls of contrasting 4ply/fingering weight sock yarn are required to complete the pattern.

  • Whilst written for users of the magic loop method, this pattern is easily convertible to be completed on DPN’s.
