Ionic Fingerless Mitts
These mitts are based on a popular cable motif often referred to as the Ionian Cable. Reminiscent of ancient Greek columns this symmetrical, elegant cable is an easy and fun knit. The rest of the mitt is straight forward stockinette stitch and is constructed in the round with a gusset thumb.
Any double knitting or sport weight yarn would work for this pattern. Gauge is 24sts/4” measured over stockinette stitch. The pattern calls for 115 yards/105 meters of yarn, so this is a great pattern to use up leftovers and stash!
The mitt is intended to be worn with negative ease, as the cable panel stretches significantly. The mitt has a circumference of 6”, when unstretched, at both the palm and wrist and will stretch comfortably to 9” circumference. Additional length is easily added to the mitt should it be desired, just be sure to have extra yardage to accommodate your modifications.
Skills required:
Work in the round, knit, purl, cable, increase, pick up stitches, cable cast on, bind off in ribbing, chart reading
