These mittens are knitted from the cuff, starting with a twisted rib and then the four color pattern starts.

There are no increases for the thumb.

The pattern includes a link to a video tutorial for how to knit the knit in thumb.

You can knit these in any color combination you’d like, just substitute the colors in the pattern for any that you like. It’s a great pattern to use up scraps.

You can either carry the unused colors up the side of the mitten, or cut them after each color change.

Knitting with gauge according to pattern will give you a pair of mittens of the follow measuments:

Circumference: 20 cm / 7.9 in
Length: 26 cm / 10.2 in

You can easily change the size by going up or down a needle size or using a thicker or thinner yarn. Note that changing needles or thickness of yarn may change amount of yarn needed.

I recommend meeting the following stitch gauges on 10cm / 4 in for larger mittens:

22 cm / 8.7 in circumference: 29 stitches
24 cm / 9.5 in circumference: 27 stitches
26 cm / 10.2 in circumference: 25 stitches
