Updated, January 2012. Worsted weight yarn, 300 yards.

I have loved Irish crochet as a fast and fun way to make items. A market bag typically involves stitch work similar to that of Irish crochet. The base of the bag is based on an old pattern for a pot holder by the name of a Catherine Wheel.

If Catherine were to be here today enjoying a cup of Earl Grey tea with some shortbread cookies, I’m sure she’d ask to be called Kate.

The combination of patterns makes for a lovely market bag with a sturdy handle that can deal with all the bread and fresh veges you care to fill it with.

I hope you enjoy this pattern as much as I enjoyed creating it! :-)
