This shawl begins with a strip of lace edging, stitches are picked up and the main body is knit, shaped by short rows into a gentle curve, and finished with a simple crochet bind off.

The pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters or adventurous beginners.

Pattern is in chart format only, and would be suitable for a wide range of lace weight yarns. If you choose to use a heavier yarn, remember to increase your needle size and yardage accordingly.

Irma was a long-time family friend who passed away in October 2011 a month before her 89th birthday. The original shawl was designed as a gift for her daughter, who was especially close to her mother in the last years of her life. Irma loved roses, so the white roses in Irma’s Rose Garden are a gentle reminder and a sweet memory of a lovely woman who is much missed by all who knew her. With the kind permission of her family, this shawl is named for her.

Measurements are 52” across circle with edges held, 15” at edge, 21” at center back, and 57” across top edge.

September 22, 2012 - An error was found in the Rose Leaf Edging chart. Stitch 29 of Row 1 should be a yo, not purl as in the original chart. A corrected version of the pattern was uploaded today.

March 10, 2013 - It was noticed that Stitch #27 and Stitch #33 on Row 20 of the main pattern chart should be marked as ‘no stitch’. Version 3 with the correction has been uploaded today.
