This is a crescent-shaped shawl with an unusual texture stitch, designed to work with the irregular color patterns, saturation, and speckles in hand-painted yarn. This is not like other patterns, where you can follow the directions to get a result that looks like the designer’s, because it’s unlikely that you will have yarns that are just like mine. Think of this pattern is a basic recipe - I explain what I did with my yarns, which can give you ideas about designing for your yarns and their individual characteristics. It is written, not charted, is suitable for a beginning knitter, and is very good for social knitting.

We have seen the daily viciousness of Russia’s attack on Ukraine and the almost unbelievable suffering of the Ukrainian people, and like many people I have wondered what I can do to help. So beginning from February 24, the date of the invasion, all sales from my shop will be donated to Medicines Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) and their work in Ukraine. The Russians have targeted medical facilities there.
From their website: “MSF has a longstanding presence in Ukraine, including in parts of the eastern region that have been affected by armed conflict since 2014… MSF staff in Ukraine are delivering urgent medical supplies, training health workers on managing mass casualty incidents, running mobile clinics, and organizing medical evacuations of hospitalized patients from the east to the west of the country.”
