Isabella Shawl
This rectangular shawl is knit by beginning with a central panel of a pinecone lace motif, worked back and forth. When that is complete, stitches are picked up around the edges, and the remainder of the shawl is worked in the round, with yarn-over increases at each corner to shape the shawl. The outer borders are worked with mountain range and evergreen tree lace motifs.
The shawl is inspired by the intrepid traveler (and knitter!), Isabella Byrd, who visited and explored remote parts of the western United States in the late 19th century on horseback.
If you choose to substitute yarns, select one with good stitch definition and without too much halo, but with a nice drape and soft hand. You will need approximately 850 yards of a fingering weight yarn to complete pattern as written.
Please note the lace motifs are presented in chart form ONLY in this pattern.
