The Isla Tank is a simple summer top that uses half double crochets and DK weight yarn to create a light but sturdy crochet piece. It is worked in 2 panels that are seamed up the sides, then chains and slip stitches are used to create the back ties and shoulder straps all in one go. Waist shaping instructions are included to get a sleeker, more narrow fit, or you can omit them for a loose and boxy fit.

This pattern is suitable for advanced beginners as you will only need to know half double crochet and slip stitch, but you will need to be familiar with increasing, decreasing, and working into back loops. It is graded for sizes XS (S, M, L, XL) (2X, 3X, 4X, 5X). My sample is a size L on a 43in. bust.

MATERIALS:

  • 5mm hook (or size needed to meet gauge).
  • Approximately 609 (680, 752, 823, 895) (967, 1038, 1110, 1181) yards/222 (248, 274, 300, 326) (352, 378, 404, 430) grams worsted weight yarn (I used K+C Light Weight Essential Cotton in the shade Sequoia. NOTE: although this yarn is listed as a DK, it is definitely thicker than a typical DK. Some of my testers found it more appropriate to use a worsted weight yarn than a DK).
  • Needle for weaving in ends.

DISCLAIMER: This pattern was not tested on size 5X. I would be happy to provide this pattern for free if you’re interested in making this size in exchange for a small amount of feedback!
