Just a stone’s throw from the coast, there is Lismore Island neatly sandwiched between Oban and Mall. The name Lismore comes from the Gaelic Lios Mor, which means “big garden”.
I wish I could stroll around this place some day, breathing in the fresh, briny smell of the sea, mixed with the fragrance of flowering herbs.
In the meantime, I ‘draw’ magical Shetland lace with Knoll Yarns Lambswool yarn and knitting needles, and dream of Lismore Island; and it turns out a big shawl, warm and cozy, in which you can wrap yourself up during long winter evenings, and dream about faraway islands.

The Isle of Lismore is a square-shaped shawl knitted in Shetland lace technique.
It is worked in 3 steps:
First, you knit the central panel flat (back and forth) leaving its top edge sts open.
Then, you pick up stitches along its sides, and work the border in the round.
Finally, you work the edging around the entire shawl attaching it perpendicularly to the border as you go.

Suggested Yarn: I recommend using fine wool yarn approximately 1000 - 1500 meters per 100 g.

Yardage depends on the desired finished size of the shawl. It’s better to have approximately 2800 - 3000 m.

Difficulty level: intermediate. You should be able to read knitting charts, work garter stitch and lace pattern in RS and WR rows, cast on sts with waste yarn; pick up sts along vertical edges; graft live sts.

Gauge: may vary depending on the yarn weight, needle size, and your knitting tension.

For this project, I used Knoll Yarns Lambswool, 425 m/50 g.
Finished size of my shawl (after blocking): 180 cm х 180 cm; weight - 300 g.
Total yardage - 2550 meters.

Needles and notions: circular knitting needles 2.5 mm - 3.0 mm, stitch markers, tapestry needle, blocking pins.
If you knit loosely, I suggest using smaller size needles - about 2.0 mm - 2.5 mm

Markers: I prefer to use removable markers and place them directly on the stitch, not on the needle between stitches. Of course, you are welcome to use any method of marking your stitches, just keep this note in mind while reading the following instructions.

Я предлагаю вашему вниманию квадратный платок, выполненный в технике шетландских ажуров.
Он вяжется в три этапа.
Сначала выполняется центральная часть которая вяжется лицевыми и изнаночными рядами. Затем по краям поднимаются петли из кромочных и по низу, вяжется по кругу бордюр. И третьим этапом по периметру привязывается ажурная кайма.

Материалы. В качестве пряжи я рекомендую использовать тонкую шерсть, 1000 - 1500 метров в 100 гр.

Расход зависит от того, какой размер готового изделия вы хотите получить. Лучше иметь в запасе примерно 2800 - 3000 метров.

Уровень сложности средний. Для успешного выполнения необходим навык чтения схем, вязания платочного узора и ажурного узора как .в лицевых, так и в изнаночных рядах. Необходимо уметь набирать петли из кромочных и на бросовую нить, а также выполнять трикотажный шов.
