Around the world in 80 days? Well, this fabulous hat can definitely be knit in less! Beautiful Victorian-styled beret hat pattern is modeled after period airships and air-balloons. Has a tall band and ribbon detailing.

The materials required are:

1 2/3 skeins of Lion-Brand Wool-Ease yarn
or just under 330 yards any other Aran weight yarn
-or-
1 skein of Lion-Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick super bulky yarn
or just under 110 yards any other super bulky yarn

Tapestry needle or a crochet hook to cinch top

1½ yards 7/8” - 1½” satin ribbon

40” or longer 9mm (US size 13) circular knitting needles for magic loop method or DPNs

40” or longer 9mm (US size 13) circular knitting needles for magic loop method or DPNs

If you’re using Aran weight yarn then you will use 3 strands throughout the hat. If you have 2 skeins of wool ease then you will have to make 3 strands from those 2 balls. The problem is, if you use two strands from one ball all the way through, you’ll run out of yarn on that ball before you finish the hat.

To solve this problem: use two strands from one ball, and one strand from the other ball until you reach row 32. Then you stop and switch,

--using one strand from the ball you were using two strands from

--and using two strands from the ball you were using one strand from.

This way, you’ll have a consistent amount of yarn until the end of the hat.
