My mother-in-law Estella taught me these slippers some 45 years ago. Sadly, she and my handwritten pattern have been gone a long time now. I used to knit them from memory, but found lately that didn’t work too well.

This pattern is based on Kris Basta’s “Better Dorm Boots” found for free here on Ravelry. These are using her numbers for the XL size. In my gauge they fit my ladies size 8 feet. Estella’s version had a garter stitch cuff, Kris’ version has a lace cuff…so cute!

My version here is knit in the round so there is no seaming whatsoever.

Here’s a great tutorial for the sole’s 3 strands from 1 ball Navajo/chain plying on my #9’s. This allows me to make a 3-ply from one strand as I knit.

The remaining boot is kniit with 2 strands held together.

Use DPN’s if you prefer, or Magic Loop as I did.

German Short Row turning (GSR) is used once for the cuff because it turns down, you will need to work on the inside so the lace cuff shows on the outside. You can use any short row turn you wish.

In order to knit Garter Stitch for the sole, the sole alternates a knit round, and a purl round.
