Gauge and yarn is your personal preference at the end. Finer yarn – tighter gauge is a general rule. The shawl blocked will be shorter in the case of finer yarn and larger if the thicker yarn is used.

For gossamer lace weight yarn the gauge is 12st Х 24rows in 2’’x2’’or 5Х5cm
For lace weight yarn the gauge is 12st Х 16rows in 2”x2”or 5Х5cm

Needles:
1.5-2mm for gossamer yarn
2mm-2.75mm for lace weight yarn

The base medium shawl (like pink) needs 400m of lace weight yarn. White gossamer shawl size large-extra large needs 1100m of gossamer yarn.
