I love how the soft, subtly variegated tonalities of the wool suggest the dense, overcast sky one sees when it’s about to snow. Suddenly, the sky bursts open and large snowflakes begin to fall to the ground. When I started knitting this toque, the snow was “raining” down vertically outside my window!

This toque is the perfect accessory to add to your winter wardrobe! The pattern is knit in rounds and involves stranded knitting, using the main colour as dominant. The band is cast on using the tubular cast-on method. A charted graph provides row by row instructions. The top shaping is achieved with regular decreases on double-pointed needles (pompom optional). Demos on YouTube are suggested for knitters unfamiliar with any of the techniques.

I’ve provided two different yarn recommendations, as one of the yarns I used in my sample toque is no longer available. Any soft spun DK wool or wool blend that enables you to capture the subtle gradations of a moody, winter sky will work perfectly. About 50 g of yarn is needed for each colour.
