This is a .PDF file of a crochet pattern to crochet your very own timeless, collectible Sophia Doll.

Who doesn’t remember Sophia from The Golden Girls TV sitcom? As a teenager, you would think that watching some “old biddies” on TV would be unrelatable, but I loved them. I remember how much I laughed at Sophia’s wit and her stories of Sicily - “Picture it! Sicily 19…”. Now, as a middle-aged woman myself, I only wish I had just an “itty biddy” bit of her wit and history!

Sophia is the most intricate of the four Itty Biddy Doll patterns. She has the most trim and accessories of the girls. This pattern has more than double the photos as my other patterns and likely triple the hours in design work. Consider the Rose, Blanche, and Dorothy Doll patterns as “warm-ups” for the Sophia pattern! Although she is more intricate, the instructions are as simple and clear as all my patterns, with all the photos you need to follow along step-by-step. There are a few higher skilled techniques used in this pattern such as crocheting a rectangle shape in-the-round, 4-dc-bobble stitch in-the-round, bead work, and wire shaping - all of which are explained in the pattern.

As a person who is self taught in crochet, I know how frustrating patterns can be to follow and understand. That is why I have taken special care to ensure that my pattern is thorough but easy to follow, with simple well-organized instructions, and over 80 photos to help you along! You will feel confident that you will end up with a well-made quality product when you have finished this pattern. Imagine the pride and joy you will feel when you show your friends and loved ones this beautiful handmade collectible. They will be so inspired by your creativity and talent.

To complete this pattern you will need:
intermediate-advanced crochet skills,
a small amount of worsted weight cotton yarn in black, light skin tone, and clothing and hair colours of your choice, (I used golden rod, black, and white)

polyester fibre fill
small piece of cardboard to cut about a 2” circle or a 2” washer
optional: an old or broken necklace, or other piece of chain, approx 5” long
small white pearl beads of different sizes (2 mm/0.08 inch, 3 mm/0.12 inch, 4 mm/0.16 inch)
