Itty Bitty Ditty Bag
This is a simple mesh bag made with an elastic yarn. It stretches to hold things such as a phone, or the small items that collect in your pocketbook gently together. The bag also works as a water bottle carrier, a yarn bra and so on. I use it a lot while travelling and camping.
The bag is a bit different than the other mesh bags because it has a flat bottom and is made with elastic yarn to be very stretchy. If you make the bag, share how you use it!
It can be made any size by altering the number of stitches cast on. Determine the bottom width and calculate from there. For example, to hold a smart phone or tablet, make sure the cast on is just wide enough to fit the bottom edge. The pattern includes a formula and example for changing size and stitch pattern.
Any elastic yarn can be used. The Cascade Fixation bag still works well after 2 years of heavy use. It stays stretchy and regains its shape after washing.
Only 2 pattern pages need to be printed.
Schrouderknit’s gave a helpful suggestion on squaring up the Icord when binding off:
… “you … start when there are 4 sts left, ie 1 left to BO. Do it like this -
Slip 2 tog as if to K. SSK the remaining 2 sts. Pass the 2 slipped sts over the st from the SSK.
Your choice whether to cut yarn and pull tail through remaining st, or to cut and just pull on loop until it comes undone and you have the tail pulling from the quadruple dec.”
