Story:
My home town is Pretoria, I was born and went to school there. No matter where I have lived in the world, there is always a sense of coming home when I am in Pretoria. One of the things I miss the most about living away from Pretoria, is the Jacaranda trees that flower in spring. It marks the end of winter and the start of another glorious summer. The streets are lined with Jacaranda trees. Pretoria is also known as the Jacaranda city. When the flowers fall they make a carpet of delicate purple flowers on the roads and pavements. A promise of summer.

PATTERN INFO

Description
Top down triangular shawl with a lace edge. The body can be knit in stocking stitch or garter stitch.

Difficulty Level: Advanced Beginner
While many beginners are scared of lace, I have tried hard to make a big beautiful shawl that you can be very proud of but that is actually fairly simple to knit.

Skills Needed:
Garter tab cast on, stocking stitch, simple increases and decreases. The lace is an easy to remember repeat and uses yarn overs and decreases. The lace edges do not increase so it makes the chart and pattern instructions easy to remember.

Needles
3.75mm/US 5 circular needles at least 120cm/47“ long

Yarn
Hartlam Darling Lace 70% Baby Alpaca, 20% Silk, 10% Cashmere (75g; 600m/656yds)

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge
Gauge is not crucial in this pattern, however it will affect the overall finished size of your shawl.
Stocking stitch: 23 stitches and 33 rows over 10cm/4” blocked

Sizes
This shawl is fully customisable for various weight yarns, as you knit to a percentage of your ball and then work the 8 row lace pattern as many times as your yarn allows or as you like.
Finished measurement in 2ply Hartlam Darling Lace (70% Baby Alpaca,
20% Silk, 10% Cashmere): Wingspan: 127cm (50”) stocking stitch body, 160cm (63”) including lace. Middle depth: 76cm (30”)
