Jacinda Hat & Cowl
Introductory Promo: This and all my other patterns are 25% off (no code needed) through the end of Wednesday, 2/19 (MST)!
Created for the 2025 Malabrigo Quickies series, the Jacinda Hat & Cowl feature a simple lace motif blown up on a macro scale! The Noventa base - a thick, soft single-ply - shows off Malabrigo’s colorways to gorgeous effect. These pieces will knit up quickly for your winter wardrobe!
Pattern contains both fully charted and written instructions.
Recommended Yarn:
Malabrigo Yarn Noventa — 100% Superwash Merino — 90 yds (82 m) to 125 g per skein. Shown in size M/L on both models in colorways Sea Slug (orange-pink) and Sea Horse (blue-green). Yardage estimates include an approximate 10% cushion for gauge differences.
The size XL hat will break into a second skein of yarn - I suggest knitting the hat first, then using the remainder of the second skein for the cowl (you may need to omit a few rounds).
Yardages -
S Hat: 80 yds (73 m)
M/L Hat: 90 yds (82 m)
XL Hat: 100 yds (91 m)
Cowl: 85 yds (78 m)
Sizing:
Hat -
S: 16.5” (42 cm) around body and 8” (20 cm) high, to fit head sizes 20-21” (51-53 cm).
M/L: 18” (46 cm) around body and 8.5” (22 cm) high, to fit head sizes 22-23” (56-58 cm).
XL: 19.5” (50 cm) around body and 9” (23 cm) high, to fit head sizes 24+” (61+ cm).
Cowl - 22” (56 cm) around base and 20” (51 cm) around body, 8” (20 cm) high.
The pieces rely on the superwash nature of Noventa to relax in blocking and thereby reach given measurements.
Blocked Gauge:
13 sts and 20 rounds (hat) and 12 sts and 20 rounds (cowl) over 4” (10 cm) on larger needles in lace pattern, worked in the round. (Cowl was blocked more aggressively.)
Needles:
For Hat - US 9 (5.5 mm) and US 10 (6 mm) circular needles in 16” (40 cm) lengths, with US 10 (6 mm) DPNs for crown. For Cowl - US 10 (6 mm) circular needles in 16” (40 cm) length.
PLEASE NOTE: As I knit tightly, I actually used US 10 (6 mm) and US 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles to knit the hat and US 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles to knit the cowl. To meet finished dimensions and to ensure enough yarn, be sure to use the needle size that gives gauge. Changes in gauge will affect finished size, look of motifs, and amount of yarn used.
Other Materials:
One stitch marker for beginning of round, tapestry needle.
