I designed this Beanie (touque) for my father in Canada. He likes fitted beanies, which the photo examples are, but you can make this beanie longer or shorter, depending on your preference!

This beanie has only been made with weight 3 (DK weight) yarn, so making it with thicker yarn might give you a beanie that’s much too big. But you can of course try it out if you like, and see what happens! ;) It also has options for 2 styles of flat ribbing, and 2 styles of folded ribbing!

The stitch I used for this beanie is the granny spike stitch, and is now a part of a “Pine” collection I’ve been creating, based on my Pine Needle Sweater pattern, I released in July 2024.

Keep a lookout for more from the Pine collection, such as a vest, cardigan, sweater-dress, and top, with releases planned throughout 2025.

Gauge
R1-R3 should have a diameter of roughly 5.5cm (2.2”), to match the sizing of the beanie in the pattern.

Measurements
Make sure you know the circumference of the head you’re making this beanie for before starting. Divide the circumference by 2, and use it as a reference when needed.

For a small hat, you may need to skip the last increase row, for a larger beanie, you may need to add an increase row. Make sure to measure at certain stages so you can make a beanie with a perfect fit!
