Gauge 2.4 stitches/3 rows per inch in bulky #5 yarn. Sample was made using Ice Bulky Wool. Estimated yarn requirements: 355, 386, 410, 444, 488, 535, 581 yards. These are mathematical estimates and will vary with specific yarn so have extra on hand to be safe.
Sizes: finished chest of 39, 41, 44, 46, 49, 51, 52.5”. Finished length may be anything you wish. 25” is specified.
Pegs: the smallest size requires 49, the largest 65
Stitches: knit Any version that gets the gauge: knit, flat U or e-wrap stitches are all acceptable, purl, several cable stitches. It is assumed that you know how to knit and purl. The cables are fully described.
Loom: The sample was made on a small gauge Kiss Loom using 7 washers. A regular gauge Kiss takes fewer washers. I was able to match the gauge and make all the same stitches on a Noble Knitter 100 set up for fast single knitting with 6 washers and also on a 28” AKB All-in-One by using opposing pairs of pegs as though they were a single peg. See last page for details.

You can make a nice vest without matching the gauge perfectly but you will get a different finished chest size. If your gauge is 2 stitches per inch the vest will come out 47, 49, 53, 55, 59, 61, 63”. If your gauge is 3 stitches per inch the vest will come out 31, 32.5, 35, 36.5, 39, 40.5, 42
