I love the look of embroidery stitches and have attempted a few small pieces over the years. I was never particularly good at it and I am always thrilled to be able to embellish knitting with the look of embroidery.

Drawn stitches, quilting stitches and Rooistud, all created while knitting, give you the finished look of hand embroidery. The drawn stitching in this hat reminds me of the Jacobean style of embroidery hence the name of this hat.

Jacobean is worked in a “drawn” stitch in that the contrast yarns are drawn through an eyelet pattern created in the rows or rounds before the contrast colour is introduced.

I added a few beads (300 6/0) and a little textural detail to the ribbing to enhance the richness of the yarn colours and stitch details.

Materials: 200 yds main colour, and 100 yds of the secondary colour, sample was knit with Ancient Arts Lascaux Fine the “A walk in the Woods” and “Scent and Sensibility” colourways. 2.75mm US #2 16 in circ for the rib, 3.25mm US #3 16 in circs and dpn’s for the body; 300 6/0 beads, .75 hook for bead placement, markers and the regular notions.
