This pattern is beginner-friendly, with a slight challenging spot in the penultimate round, as that round requires some folding and pleating. The pattern requires 2.5mm and 3mm crochet hooks, and fingering or sports weight yarn in soft white and green colours.

The amigurumi is worked in rounds, and covers a range of basic stitches, i.e. the single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc) and double crochet (dc).

The finished amigurumi measures around 5cm long × 3cm wide × 4.3cm tall, but the finished size may vary depending on the hook size, yarn and crochet tension.

This amigurumi was inspired by the jade cabbage dumpling. Jade dumplings are also known as fěicuì báicài jiǎozi (翡翠白菜饺子) or fěicuì jiǎo (翡翠饺) in Chinese. They are jiaozi dumplings with the wrappers partially coloured with spinach and shaped to look like the Chinese cabbage jade carvings, hence their name. These dumplings are often eaten on festive occasions like Chinese New Year, as they symbolise wealth and prosperity.
