Jailbird is an intermediate level of difficulty, I would say. His body is pretty easy, involving knitting in the round on double pointed needles, increases and decreases. His feathers are knit flat, and require some seaming, and his legs are a simple series of increases and decreases in the round.

His feet -- I’m not gonna lie -- his feet are a pain in the butt! The pattern is very explicit, and walks you through every step of the way, but they are fiddley! I think the effort is totally worth it, though!

Jailbird is a fun knit, and an interesting challenge for those looking to broaden some of their knitting skills.

Because Jailbird is a toy, there really is no right or wrong gauge. I usually knit him out of worsted wool and that makes a bird about 12 inches tall.
