I hope you enjoy this pattern. I sat down one day and started knitting, this is not what I intended when I started. Changing the textures as I went I just loved the end product. So simple yet so effective.

This is not one of my normal beanies, but I am hooked on now creating different kinds of headwear, hope you love it.

The Design

You knit this hat from the brim up. From the brim to the end of the crown there is so much detail, but not too much… the wave of the brim, the ripple in the body and the ridges in the crown….

Techniques

This pattern involves knit and purl, yo overs and simple decreases. The fold line is a little different but once you get your head around it, no issues. Read the notes for more information.

Yarn

This pattern is written based on a 8ply pure wool Merino yarn.

The yarn I used had the below details, I used almost all of the one ball.

8ply (DK) 212m 100g.

I cannot give you a gauge, I don’t swatch and there was no gauge on the label!!!!!!

Materials

3.75mm 60cm Circular needles for the brim.

4mm 60cm Circular needles for the rest. Of course you can use double pointed needles if you prefer

You will then need the normal army of accessories, stitch marker, scissors, tapestry needle and any other handy implement you use in your knitting!!

When decreasing the crown it is your choice what to use when the beanie gets too small for your circular needle. I use two circular needles (look it up it is a great way of decreasing and gives a great finish), or you can use double pointed needles, the choice is yours. Of course what ever you use will have to be 4mm if following this pattern.

Sizing

This finished beanie is a medium to large adult, as in idea this beanie fits Mat very well (yes I made him wear it). His head measures 22 1/2 inches, 57 cm to give you a guide and was not tight or to loose.
