Janet's baby booties - that stay on!
My mother, Janet, taught me this great pattern. It’s a straightforward pattern for baby booties, and they actually stay on the baby! It is suitable for a beginner knitter, and is great for using leftover sock yarn. The booties are knitted flat, then folded in half and sewn up. A ribbon, or tie, is added at the end to secure the bootie.
There is just one size for the booties. They are about 4 inches long.
You’ll need 1 ball 3 ply wool (or sock weight yarn). I used a little less than 20g/0.7oz to make one pair of booties. (I’m guessing this is between 50 and 100 yards.)
The gauge does not matter so much. 7 stitches per inch gives a bootie about 4 1/4” long, 8 stitches per inch gives a bootie about 3 3/4 “ long.
I have also made the booties with DK yarn. I have included the numbers for this at the end of the pattern.
