Japanese Lace Socks For Beginners
Knitting is not a pastime! It’s a way of life. It eases my soul, it’s music to my senses…..and when I need it most, it’s a light in the dark.
This pattern is written as a top down sock, (Knit Flat in the beginning,) with heel flap and gusset instructions. It is written for you to choose the number of stitches that you can use to make socks. I have calculated the stitch pattern for 48 (56, 60, 64, 68 and 72) stitches. If you are a beginner, & have not made socks before you can calculate the number of stitches you require. To do so knit a swatch in the round and measure how many stitches you are getting per inch width ways. Then multiply the number of stitches per inch by the circumference of your leg in inches.
You may prefer to go up a needle size or two (upto 3.5mm), when working the Japanese Lace only. Not for the rest of the Sock. The Instep & Sole are worked in the Round in St St Pattern using 2.5mm.
These socks may be the ones you will wear for a date night, or as a Christmas gift for someone special. You may like to knit them, keep them, or give them as a Christmas gift to someone.
Skill Level: Intermediate.
Berroco Ultra Wool Fine, 100 gms. 400 yards. 100% Superwash Wool. 1 ball.
Two 2.5mm fixed circular knitting needles & two 3.5mm straight needles. Needle size & gauge are only a suggestion. Please use whichever size needles & gauge which you prefer. I personally feel that it’s important to create socks you are comfortable wearing rather than trying to match my gauge.
