“The shapes for the Japanese Lichen Shawl grew out of my love of lichens, one of the outstanding features of the British countryside. I designed it for an exhibition on Japan, wanting to express my love of the subtleties of Japanese taste. Their endless fascination with dark, restrained tones led me to choose a very close range of gunmetal greys, silvers and hints of grey-pinks. I was lucky to find a wonderful selection of textures - silks, bouclés, softly shaded ribbons and mohair,wool-rayon mixtures and some glorious dark tweeds, all in my chosen colour range.”
