Japarta's Wings
This is a fundraising pattern for my late brother, Mino. (1971-2004)
This pattern was updated with 6 color designs in March 2014. (Current version: 4.3)
“Japarta’s Wings” is a sideways knit shawl with garter stitch at each end, box stitch in the middle, and lace at the edge. Depending on how you wear it, the textured section appears on the back or front of your neck. This pattern is very versatile -- you can knit it in one or multiple colors or in many more creative ways in any size.
Skills required:
K, P, Yo, K2tog, M1, Skp (Slip 1, K1, psso)
The pattern includes 6 color designs. Three of the designs are named after the cities in Australia where Mino spent his last years: Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne.
I would like to ask any knitter who comes up with a new color pattern to name it after a city in Australia either big or small. Please PM me (my ID is yukihs) to confirm it is a new design.
The Australian city names that have been used already (as of 3/15/2014): Please refer to the test knitters’ project pages below.
Sydney - 1 color
If you want to use up a whole skein, refer to this project.
Canberra - 2 colors (C1/C2)
Melbourne - 2 colors (MC/CC “off centered CC”)
Brisbane - 3 colors
Darwin - 3 colors, with leftover skeins from “Color Affection”
Adelaide - 2 colors (Garter/Textured)
Orange - 2 colors (one accent line at the center)
Ashford- 3 colors (3 color stripes/single color)
Hobert - 2 colors (different width for bands of 2 colors.
All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork. We are trying to fully fund it to achieve its perpetuity. Please help.
Please visit Being Connected with HOKARI MINORU (www.hokariminoru.org) to meet Mino.
