This pattern is for an oval placemat using the beautiful jasmine stitch. These 6-petal puff stitches interlock seamlessly in the round, and work up to a dense fabric that is perfect for placemats, coasters and trivets. You can use literally any cotton, linen, or a blend, but I find worsted works up very thick so I prefer sport/DK or fingering weight. The pattern contains yarn suggestions and gauges for the ones I’ve tried. Jasmine stitch is mechanically tricky if you’ve never tried it, but stick with it and you will be a pro in no time. Once you understand the basic construction, you can easily extend the pattern and make your oval as big as you want.
