Aran Cable Neckwarmer
‘A chunky aran cable neckwarmer with four button fastening’

If you’re new to knitting cable, this may be a good ‘beginner’s’ scarf. The two principal techniques of cable knitting are used: ‘twisting’ cables where one cable crosses the other and ‘travelling’ cables where a cable moves to the right/left one stitch at a time to form a diagonal line.

It has been designed so there is only a 16 row repeat: within this repeat, the border cables twist every four rows (four twists for every oval). As with most cable designs, there are stocking stitches with the purl stitches at the front on either side of the cable.

MATERIALS
2 50g balls of West Yorkshire Spinners Blue-faced Leicester Aran (pictured in ‘pomegranate‘) - or, West Yorkshire Spinners The Croft Shetland Aran (’Ollaberry’)
A pair of 5mm knitting needles, a cable needle and a tapestry needle
4 buttons

Length: 27 inches, Width: 5 inches

TENSION
20sts and 30 rows over 10cm square in garter stitch
