Jean's Irish Hat
This is my take on a hat my mother-in-law, Jean bought in Ireland over 20 years ago. She handed me the hat and asked if I could change a few things and make it for her in two colors. I accepted the challenge!
I came up with two versions of the hat; one with a wide brim and one with a skinny brim that looked a bit hipper. The hat is knit in 3 pieces, the brim, the body of the hat, and the top that are seamed together to make a beautifully shaped hat that can be worn many ways depending on how you play with the brim. In addition to two versions of the brim I have also included two ways of doing the top. The recommended way of knitting a flat circle in the round that is attached with a three-needle bind off or picking up around the top and knitting in the round to the center… a little easier but not quite as well shaped.
NOTE: This pattern is available in German as translated by by a fellow Raveler but the the pattern I wrote is in English. Both versions are included when you buy the pattern. vk
