Jefferson
This cowl design was inspired by the beautiful brick walkways around the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville, where I earned my doctorate. UVA was founded by Thomas Jefferson, who also designed the older sections of the Grounds. He incorporated red brick in practical and visually interesting ways throughout the university.
The cowl is knit seamlessly in the round following CHARTED instructions ONLY.
I opted to use the purl through the back loop (ptbl) stitch to give better definition to the vertical brick outlines. Here’s a video illustrating the stitch for those who are unfamiliar: (link)
This pattern was designed using bulky weight yarn. 150 yds / 100 g should be sufficient, but I have suggested 150 - 200 yds to cover variability amongst knitters.
Gauge = 3.5 sts / inch in stockinette
Row Gauge = 5.5 sts / inch in stockinette (less important)
NOTE: This (free) pattern has not been test knit or tech edited. Please forgive and bring to my attention any errors you may find!
