Jemma (in fingering weight yarn) was actually designed at about the same time as her “older sister cowl” Jonna (in sport weight yarn). I was thrilled that Quince & Co selected Jonna to be a part of their Scarves, Etc. collection… But like a parent with two daughters, I knew that Jemma would, and should, have her own time to shine.

Jemma is a tapered cowl, narrower on the top and wider on the bottom. The shape is created by using three progressive needle sizes with no increasing or decreasing. The lace pattern in Jemma is quite easy and creates a lovely feminine cowl that complements flannel and denim as well as lace.

Jemma has a picot edging that is done as a bind off. For this reason the cowl begins with a provisional cast on.

Note: The gauge stated above is (knit in pattern) with the smallest size needle. If you need to go up one needle size to obtain gauge, increase the size of each needle by one size. If you need to go down one needle size to obtain gauge, decrease the size of each needle by one size.
