Jill …..
A discussion popped up in our little sock knitting group about knitting socks for men. In general, many had men in their lives that preferred simple/plain socks, which is fine, but often not as interesting to knit. So, I thought, aha, a Jack and Jill sock. Jill is fancy with some fun stitches; Jack is a quick knit, but complements Jill. So there you go.

Both socks are worked toe-up, have a full gusset and a faux-flap style heel. Pattern for Jill includes brief directions for adjusting sock length and options for toe styles, heel stitch pattern, and Faux-flap pattern. Links to tutorials are included for most techniques. Fancy stitch pattern is charted, but after a few repeats, is easily worked without chart. Pattern can be worked using Magic Loop, 2 circulars, or Double-points.

Included at end are brief instructions for Handsome Jack. Instructions for Jack rely on Jill for details. Jack sizes are: Women’s S, M , and L and Men’s small and medium/large.

Finished Jill size medium fits foot with ball of foot circumference of 8.75 inches (22 cm). The sample sock pictured has a leg length from bottom of heel to top of cuff of 6.5 inches (16.5 cm), finished foot length of 9.25 inches (23.5 cm) from back of heel to toe tip.

Sizing -
S (M, L) to fit ball of foot circumference of ~8 (9, 9.5)“, 20 (23, 24) cm.

Total stitches 58 (66, 74).

Sock has ~20% negative ease.

Gauge
~ 9.5 stitches, 13 rows per inch (37 stitches, 51 rows per 10 cm) in the round in stockinette

Recommended Yarn
~ Fingering weight (16WPI) sock yarn total amount of ~ 400-460 yds/ 100 g (366-421 m/100 g), depending on sock size and leg length made.

Recommended Needle Size
US 0 (2.0 mm) circular needles or size to obtain gauge. Optional 2.25-2.5 mm needle for working leg or bind-off.

Other tools: Three closed stitch markers, darning needle, optional crochet hook for picot bind-off.
