Ultra-cable is a two-colored, textured stitch technique. A combination of slip stitches with 1x1 cables is all it takes to make this incredible fabric. It has a 3-dimensional look to it which casts interesting shadows and is a bit squishy.

The easy to remember rules for Ultra-cable are described herein. Unlike other color knitting, only one strand is worked at a time, making it easier than it looks. Think of it as a combination of a slip-stitch and cable pattern. Video links are provided for learning a 1x1 cable technique, without the use of cable needles.

The checkerboard pattern is one of the easiest ultra-cable techniques to master. With a 4-stitch, 10-row repeat, the color changes occur because of the setup row. Pay attention to the setup row! Also, use of lifelines is highly encouraged for ultra-cable knitting.
