JKAL Shawl with JKnit
This pattern was featured in the Fickle-JKnit JKAL in January 2013.
The Fickle Mystery JKAL is the first Mystery Knit Along from Fickle Knitter Design and JKnit.
You may use any appropriate sock yarn for the KAL. Please feel free to knit with the same yarn used in the sample or use your own yarn.
For those that use android devices you can play along too! The KAL will include PDF clues as well as the specialized JKnit platform on iPad and iPhone.
Gauge
16 stitches and 32 rows over 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Needle
Size US 5/3.75mm Knitting Needles, or size needed to get gauge.
Color Selection
The sample was knit with one variegated yarn and two solid colors, with the variegated being knit first, then the lighter of the two colors followed by the darker color. Another lovely color order would be to start with the lightest as Color 1, then use the variegated as Color 2, and finally the darkest color as Color 3. Alternately start with the color that flatters your skin tone first, then the variegated color, ending with the remaining color.
Yarn
Three 100 gram balls of Baah Yarn La Jolla Sock 100% Merino. 400 yards/ 366 meters. Color 1: 248 yards/ 228 meters, Color 2: 188 yards/ 172 meters, Color 3: 400 yards/366 meters. Total Yardage: 836 yards/ 767 meters. The sample was knit with Cherry Blossom as Color 1, Pretty in Pink as Color 2, and Pink Tourmaline as Color 3.
A note about Gauge
Are you a tight knitter or a loose knitter? If you are a loose knitter please consider going down a few needle sizes. If you are a tight knitter you may have to go up a few sizes to get gauge. Your swatch should be stretched after you’ve soaked it in water and then pinned it out to make it wider to dry, just as you would with the finished shawl.
Yarn substitution may result in a change in estimated yardage, gauge and finished size of your individual project.
